[this was my post for yesterday, sorry about the delay]These cookies are perfect for Fathers Day or even the upcoming 4th of July. They are a small and festive way to celebrate any BBQ! I found this idea on A Taste of Home and I just couldn't wait to make them! The original post didn't provide a lot of instruction so after making a large batch of cookies I think I got the method of shaping hot dogs down!
Here's what you'll need:
Ingredients:
1 cup of butter, room temperature
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
Red food coloring
Red frosting (next time I'll add yellow too)
Directions:
In a large bowl cream butter and sugar together. Add flour & vanilla until well combined.
Remove a handful (just under a cup) of dough and add the red food coloring, this is for the hot dog part of the cookie.
Wrap both colors of dough in saran wrap and refrigerate for an hour.
Once dough is chilled divide red dough into about 16 "hot dogs" about 2" long. Set aside.
Roll the rest of the dough into a log and cut about 16 circles, about 2" big and .5" thick. To shape the buns use your thumb and make an impression in the center of a circle. Then flattened out each end, add "hot dog" dough and shape as needed.
Repeat until all hot dogs are made.
Bake at 350 for about 12-15 minutes.
Once cooled add red & yellow frosting and enjoy!
